Innovator par excellence U-Nam has done it again. He is releasing an EP built around the track ‘Each Day A Gift’, that originated both in instrumental and vocal form on his hot new CD ‘U-Nam Goes Big Band’. In addition to these original two versions the EP also includes the associated radio edits plus a brand new smooth funk remix featuring vocals from Tim ‘TiO’ Owens. With a velvety horn foundation and a mood that has a George Duke meets Earth Wind & Fire thing going on, this really is U-Nam at his very best and is all the more remarkable for the way he has re-constructed the song from its Latin tinged roots.
Reaching out as it does to both smooth jazz stations and more R & B orientated outlets this is an EP that could well be a radio programmers dream.
However ‘Each Day A Gift’ is as much about the message as it is about the music and as the world struggles to emerge from lockdown and shake free from the shackles of the all-pervasive COVID-19 the song is sending out the message that we really should value what we have. It totally captures the moment and is the perfect antidote to the testing times in which we currently live.
As for the music, the initial vocal version of this engaging number is characterised by U-Nam’s delightful guitar interplay with the sultry tones of English vocalist Steve Brookstein who first came to prominence as the inaugural winner of the UK version of the X-Factor TV show. He quickly proved that six million voters couldn’t be wrong as his first single, a cool cover of the Phil Collins smash ‘Against All Odds’, powered its way to the top of the UK Singles Charts while his debut album, the appropriately titled ‘Heart and Soul’, also made it to number one.
Of course Tim Owens (who also happens to be the lead singer for the band the Al McKay Experience) will be well known to U-Nam fans for his vocals on several of his projects including four appearances on the critically acclaimed ‘Weekend In LA – A Tribute To George Benson’ recorded under the name of U-Nam & Friends.
‘Each Day A Gift’ the EP and the single will be going for adds on July 13, 2020 and is sure to provide the perfect showcase for the many facets of this terrific tune.
