When, back in 2014 Danish sax-man Michael Lington released his eighth solo project it found him reaching out to his musical roots for a soul album of predominately original songs that were intertwined with a couple of classics inspired by some of the greatest soul music of all time. The result was the appropriately titled ‘Soul Appeal’ and now, two years later, it seems these roots run deep as he is back with ‘Second Nature’ that Lington describes as being ‘retro modern’.
The title track ‘Beale Street’ (that Lington co-wrote with Barry Eastmond) finds him paying his own special homage to the city of Memphis and being ably supported in the venture by Booker T. Jones and the Memphis Horns.
Check back here soon for a complete review of ‘Second Nature’ but for those of you who heard those horns back in 66 it is almost unnecessary to report that today, they still sound just as good.
