What with the Dave Koz project ‘Summer Horns’ and the legendary Tower Of Power aboard the Smooth
Jazz Cruise (West Coast Edition) there seems little doubt that big hooks and
big horns are very much in vogue. Now
further proof is set to emerge with the September 17 release of ‘Pulse’ from powerhouse sax-man Steve
Cole that he has written and produced with fellow saxophonist David Mann.
In contrast to his 2011 project ‘Moonlight’ that placed Cole in a lavish orchestral setting, ‘Pulse’ is all about its muscular horn
section and soul-powered grooves. With
Mann featuring on sax, flute and keyboards, the lineup is further enhanced by
the always excellent Ricky Peterson on
Hammond B3, rising star Nicholas
Cole on keys, and everyone’s favorite drummer Khari Parker.
Contributions are
also made by bass player Paul
Peterson, guitarists Rico
McFarland and Bernd Schoenhart,
that sensational background vocalist Nicki
Richards plus brass enhancements from trumpeter Trevor Neumann and trombone player Dan Levine.
Radio listeners will get a feel for what ‘Pulse’ is all about when the single ‘With You All The Way’ lands later in July and with Cole’s soulful take on the classic ‘Going In Circles’ also in the mix interest in this highly anticipated collection is rising by the minute.
