Now there is another great reason for being in Chicago on October 29, 2010. Jim Peterik and Lisa McClowry have been chosen as presenters for the American Smooth Jazz Awards which will be held, that evening, at Chicago's DuSable Museum of African American History.
Of course Peterik has written some of the biggest pop anthems of the last forty years and led iconic bands such as The Ides Of March and Survivor. In the annals of rock his career has been one of consummate achievement yet recently he made what could be described as a sensational entry into the world of contemporary jazz. That said his latest CD, ‘Lifeforce’, is far from being a typical smooth jazz album but, with a mega talented backing band and the immensely impressive vocal talents of Lisa McClowry, this ‘rock meets contemporary jazz’ collection is as enticing as it is different.
Peterik has also produced Lisa McClowry’s 2010 CD ‘Time Signatures’ which I have variously described as “hauntingly beautiful” and as “being in that warm, comfortable place midway between pop and adult contemporary.”
Smooth Jazz Therapy will be reporting from the awards so check back here often for all the news of what promises to be a fantastic evening of music.
