Sax-tress Jessy J burst onto the contemporary jazz scene in 2008 with her chart-topping debut album ‘Tequila Moon’. Now, her fourth release, ‘Second Chances’, will hit the streets September 10 on the constantly excellent Shanachie label. It finds her breaking new ground as she takes over the production reigns for a ten song set (including eight originals) that is characterized by collaborations with Grammy Award-nominated keyboardist-producer Jeff Lorber, Grammy Award-winning guitarist Norman Brown, renowned bassist Jimmy Haslip and legendary pianist Joe Sample.
‘Second Chances’ also represents a new direction for Jessy as she sets out to blend her love for jazz and Latin rhythms with more overtly R&B grooves. Superb cases in point come in the form of the album’s two covers; the Roberta Flack hit ‘Feel Like Makin Love’ and the Sergio Mendes classic ‘Magalenha’ so check back here soon for a complete review of ‘Second Chances’.
