That ultra talented singer, songwriter and keyboard player Alan Hewitt has combined writing music for Oprah Winfrey with playing keys for the Moody Blues but right now is grabbing some serious attention with his latest solo release ‘High Fidelity’. The title track is the latest single to be serviced to radio and is everything one has come to expect from an artist with rhythm and melody to burn. It’s a cool instrumental cut which stands out in a collection that, for Hewitt, represents a return to where he started out, as a singer-songwriter.
Hewitt has never been afraid to multi-task and while ‘High Fidelity’ was still in the works he was busy composing music for a new television series called ‘Twisted Tales’ which will begin to air in March of this year. He also composed the music for ‘A Fall From Freedom’ that has won several major film festival awards and is currently enjoying a successful run on PBS. If that wasn’t enough Hewitt has also written the song ‘One More Chance’ for Joelle Moses who was a finalist in the United Kingdom version of The Voice.
All things considered, the partial move from the instrumental focus that has typified Hewitt’s three previous CDs is only part of the ‘High Fidelity’ story. Indeed, with guest performances from guitarist John Defaria (who in his time has played with Kenny Loggins and Gloria Estefan) and the always excellent Shea Chambers on backing vocals, this is a recording with something for everybody.
