Global Noize

‘Global Noize’, the exciting new album from Jason Miles and his friend DJ Logic, is set to hit record stores across the USA on April 29. The project is one that had brewed in the mind of contemporary jazz innovator Jason Miles for some time but finally solidified when he got a call from DJ Logic with an invitation to join him for a performance at the Blue Note in New York. It was through this collaboration that Miles realized he and Logic had a special connection and the opportunity which later arose for the pair to work together in Morocco at The Casablanca Jazz Festival (and to venture off to Marrakech) convinced them both that they had to make ‘Global Noize’ happen.

‘Global Noize’ is an organic, free-spirited sonic blend of some of the best elements of jazz, funk, electronica and world fusion. It has been described as music without borders and, as Miles explains, “Started with Cyro Baptista and Billy Martin jamming in the studio and then continued from there”. In making the record Logic and Miles combined their considerable musical resources and brought in some of the best cutting-edge artists around to play with them. From the album's opening track, ‘A Jam 4 Joe’, which is dedicated to the late piano/keyboard wizard Joe Zawinul, to its concluding statement in ‘What I Know’, ‘Global Noize’ is a mind-bending, global adventure that is entirely made up of original compositions. Indeed, DJ Logic describes ‘Global Noize’ as a hip and eclectic musical journey crossing all boundaries and a further delight is the tune ‘Dar'abesque’ which is named after the villa that Miles and Logic inhabited in Marrakech. It features the legendary Herb Albert whose distinctive trumpet really brings the track to life.

In summing up ‘Global Noize’ Jason Miles comments that, ‘When I hear music I love I want to be involved with it. It would be boring for me to stay in one place musically so I love to explore different styles. I know Miles Davis felt that way and I'm just trying to keep the grooves hot, the melodies great and to collaborate with the best artists I know. Hopefully Logic and I will be bringing ‘Global Noize’ to the world and show people our musical vision."

If indications are anything to go by they are well on the way to doing just that.
