David Benoit Salutes His Heroes
David Benoit has never been afraid to push the boundaries of his music talents and as an indication of his diversity it is suffice to report that this contemporary jazz icon will be debuting his latest concert work, ‘Dolores Del Carmen’ for Spanish Guitar and Orchestra with the Asia America Symphony Orchestra on June 7, 2008. Although David will also be performing over the course of the season with Sadao Watanabe, Jon Nakamatsu, and Jake Shimabukuro, the buzz of the moment surrounds his brand new ‘Heroes’ project that will be showcased on LA’s KTWV, The Wave over the weekend of May 25 & 26.
‘Human Nature’ is the first single to be lifted for airplay and has already been heard on KTWV. The fact that the tune was made famous by Miles Davis and covered by the likes of George Howard and Michael Jackson betrays the fact that ‘Heroes’ is Benoit’s tribute to some of the artists and composers who he regards as his musical greats. Also included will be ‘Your Song’, ‘Mountain Dance’, ‘Light My Fire’, ‘Waltz For Debbie’ and ‘The Frog’ all of which Benoit will use to represent the music of Dave Brubeck, The Doors, The Beatles, Dave Grusin, Sergio Mendes and Horace Silver. Word is that one or two new Benoit compositions will also be included.
